The Source Of Our Blessing

America is a nation that has certainly been blessed by God.  As one who is privileged to be born in this great nation, I have witnessed first hand those blessings.

As a citizen, I have been afforded rights that were given to me by our Creator and protected in the documents of our nations founding.  I am thankful for the reality that our founding Fathers were made up of men who feared God and desired to build a republic where men would be free to exercise their God-given rights without fear of being oppressed by a tyrannical government.  By the way, of the 55 colonial delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, 52 were members of Christian churches, the other 3 considered themselves to be deists.  This to me is evidence of strong Christian heritage for our nation.

America has led the way in so many ways throughout her history.  There have been many struggles throughout our history, and certainly many more are on the horizon.  One thing I think we can all agree on is that God has blessed America. This truth begs the question, “Why?”

The psalmist wrote, “Blessed is the nation, whose God is the Lord.” (Psalm 33:12) With the majority of those who were involved in the founding of America being Christians, and seeing the result of their Christian heritage reflected in much of the writings that they did leading up to the Declaration of Independence, I think it would be safe to say that the blessing of God was due to the fact that God was the Lord of our founding Fathers.

I realize that much has changed since our founding, however, the truth that remains forever is found in God’s word.  America, citizens and government alike, if we want to be blessed, we need to remember the source of our blessing.  The source of blessing is the same source yesterday, today and forever. He is Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth.  Not only do we need to remember who the source of our blessing is, we must proclaim Him as Lord!

The rarely sung second stanza of our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” gives great insight to the issue of God being our Lord as we are reminded in Whom we should place our trust.

O thus be it ever, when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes and the wars desolation;
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just;
And this be our motto: ”In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
(Francis Scott Key)

Let us be faithful to live the freedoms given to us by God, and as we do strive to share the truth of the Gospel so that many others would truly understand the blessing of God in their lives.

In Christ,
Bro. Tim
