An Encouraging Word

The Bond of Love

And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He has commanded us. – 1 John 3:23 (ESV)

I was amazed last night as I witnessed our church family during a CAKE AUCTION fund raising event for our Children and Youth Ministries.  The “East Room” was filled with people who had anxiously examined the tables where the prized cakes, pies and other wonderful looking desserts were on display.

As the auction began, the excitement level in the room was so high that a decibel meter would have had difficulty accurately reading the noise level that was reached.  Kids of all ages were shouting and raising hands to make their bids known to the auctioneer.  By the way, when I say kids of all ages, I do mean all ages.

As the new Pastor, I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing this event.  Everyone seemed thrilled to be gathered for the common purpose of assisting our children and youth in their efforts to earn funds for their respective camp experiences for the summer.  Evident also was the common bond of love that draws and holds the family of God together.

As I witnessed cakes and pies being purchased for outrageously high bids, I could not help but to think once again about the high bid that was paid one day on a cruel Roman cross.  It was this payment that purchased my pardon from the penalty of sin.   This bid was the price of God’s one and only Son, Jesus Christ.

For our sake, He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. – 1 Corinthians 5:21

Those of us who are members of the “Body of Christ” understand clearly that the love that binds us together is the love that was demonstrated by God on our behalf at Calvary.  We must also understand the importance of following the command of Jesus to love one another as well.

I am a witness to the fact that Seminary Baptist Church is certainly striving to love one another well.

In Christ Alone,

Bro. Tim
