Be Still And Know

"Be still and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"  Psalm 46:10 (ESV)

As I was praying this morning in preparation for writing this article today, I was overwhelmed afresh and anew with the unfathomable greatness of the God we serve.  We sing of His might, we proclaim His greatness, but how often do we sit in reflection of how He demonstrates His greatness in and through us as His children.

I believe that the Psalmist understood the importance of reflecting on the power of God as He recorded the words as inspired by the Holy Spirit in Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.”   These words fall near the end of the Psalmist's discourse on the fact that God is our refuge and strength.  No matter what we are faced with, whether the earth trembles, the mountains topple into the sea, or the waters roar and foam, He will be our HELPER.

This phrase “be still” is also translated as “cease striving” or “stop your fighting”.  I think the truth to glean here is that we must cease striving in our own power during the storms of life and we are to turn to God who is our REFUGE, our STRENGTH, and our HELPER.

In order to walk by faith, we must remember that the God whom we trust is FAITHFUL.  Paul reminds Timothy in his second letter to him of the following statement:

This saying is trustworthy: For if we have died with Him, we will also live with Him;  if we endure, we will also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He will also deny us; if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. - 2 Timothy 2:10-13 (HCSB)

Paul is reminding Timothy and us as well, that He is FAITHFUL, no matter what!!!  In Him we can place our full trust and in doing so we will come to understand in an even greater way, that HE IS GOD!!!

In Christ,

Bro. Tim
